Pit Bulls should be square when viewed from the side. It allows the dog to stand high and have maximum advantage for its weight. Height to weight
ratio is critical. Legs should be long and sloping hips are very important, because they give advantage. Shoulders and hips should be broad and muscular. A rib cage of a high quality dog should be deep, well sprung at the top and tapering to the bottom. Barrel-chested Pit Bulls are types for disqualification.
Skin of a purebred Pit Bull should be thick and loose, but without unnecessary folds. It should fit the body tightly, except around the neck and chest. At the neck and chest, purebred dogs should have vertical folds designed to protect the animal from the enemy's teeth. The tail should be low-set, thick at the base and tapering at the end. Pit Bulls come in all coat colors and patterns since it does not influence their working abilities. The coat should be short and bristled.
The head varies greatly in the conformation of the modern Pit Bulls, because its form has little to do with working abilities of the dog. The head should be neither too big nor too small. Ideally, the head should be two thirds of the width of the shoulders and about 25% wider at the cheeks than at the neck. Teeth should slip tightly together; fangs should be wide at the base and tapering to the end. Eyes of Pit Bulls should be small and deep-set; elliptical when viewed from the front and triangular when viewed from the side.
